AIDIL KHALID BLS (Hons), LL.B (Hons), began his career as a lawyer after graduating from University Teknologi MARA in 2009 with a bachelor's degree of legal studies, followed by a professional qualification of bachelor's degree of law in 2010. He is currently practising in Messrs Amelda Fuad Abi & Aidil, a legal firm based in Kota Damansara, Selangor, Malaysia. He chooses litigation as his line of practice, towards broad areas of law, which include judicial reviews, constitutional challenge, debt collections, dispute over land and properties, commercial and corporate disputes, as well as criminal defence.

 

As an activist, he is involved in civil society movements, and was one of the co-founders of the Concerned Lawyers for Justice (CLJ), a non-governmental organisation consisting of young lawyers who are passionate about preserving the five main pillars of the Malaysian nation: namely Article 3 of the Federal Constitution (Islam as the religion of the Federation), Article 14 (citizenship), Article 152 (National Language of the Federation), Article 153 (Special position of the Malays and other Indigenous Peoples as part of the social contract), and Article 181 (Sovereignty of the Rulers).

Aidil writes and speaks at various platforms, across and beyond partisan political spectrum, advocating his constitutionalist approach on human rights and legal issues, including on the position of Islam and sharia under the Malaysian Constitutional scheme. He is currently serving as a member of the Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM)’s Animal Ethics Committee, and had also previously served as a senior fellow at the Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA), a human rights think-tank based in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

In his leisure time, he loves to read and write, apart from hiking and traveling, as it allows him to reflect on various issues. He has published a collection of short stories entitled Audi Alteram Partem (the collection is in Malay language). His short story, Res Judicata, received the Utusan Group Literary prize. The short story is also chosen as a compulsory text to be studied by Form 4 and From 5 students who opt for the arts stream through out the nation. While another of his piece, Taaruf, won the Malaysian Premier Literary Prize for the year 2010/2011.
